While I don't know if a tiny white blip is the best visual indicator, I do think that some kind of visual indicator for parented nodes would be essential. Maybe different shades of colors or different node shapes, or lines connecting parented nodes (similar to YL1). I just want to be able to tell at a glance what nodes are connected.
