Better back controls

Currently you only have three sliders to control the back of a character and they seemingly all move the back bones evenly. But that is not how this works in reality and thus leads to some very weird behavior, especially in more extreme poses. Chest and lower back can naturally bend independendly from one another, after all.

If you look at sources you'll see that - for example - the "face on ground, bottom up" position bends both parts of the back in different directions. That is simply not possible with the current system.

Thus I have a suggestion.

  • Separate the back controls in two separate controls. One for the chest and one for the lower back.

Alternatively have the chest bones not bend as much as the lower back bones. That is still not how it behaves in reality but it would at least improve the current system.

On that note, it would probably a neat feature to have a "Chest Point IK" similar to the mount point IK to fixate the chest on a specific point.
Alternatively it would at least be a start

Developer response

We introduced a new slider called 'Spine Stiffness' to better retain the back's posture.

I think it would at least be nice to have a back/spine node like Yiffalicious. After messing around with the spine sliders they feel about the same but I think it would be a bit more intuitive if we could have a node for spinal positioning. Being able to lock it in place would be good for making stuff hip grinding/gyrating animations and twerking.

I'm not necessarily worried about something accurate to real life but I wouldn't be mad at a bit more control.
