I like the concept, and this is a solid foundation on which to build. However, if you're looking to improve, please consider the following:
The thickness masks, despite being 2k, appear quite pixelated.
The shaft is too large for the sheath at the base; this can be easily remedied by adjusting the thickness distribution. It also appears flat and untextured. If gray is the color you want, maybe add some normal maps or something to make it stand out.
The eyelashes appear to be solid, maybe utilize the default texture to give the more detail?
I like the hair, it's cute! However, you might be able to improve it by adding another layer of shapes to obscure the proximal portion of the two strands that are poking up over his sagittal crest or lower so they are in line with the rest.
I think the order of some of the layers are incorrect; put mouth and teeth below thickness to make the inside of his mouth not have the gray patches unless you want that.
The inside of his ears could have their color changed slightly to make them look less flat, a shade or two lighter perhaps?
The fur system, even at a short length, could make him stand out a bit more. Not sure on this, but I'd say it's worth experimenting with!
