Origin: The Ember Harvest

Before the marsh was Glory Hill, it was a glassworks settlement. The workers burned driftwood and bones to make potash, a pale ash that fed their furnaces. When an epidemic struck, the townsfolk cremated their dead in the same kilns that once shaped their livelihood.
A young artisan named Rhae Calen, the kiln-keeper’s daughter, refused to leave the fires. She collected ashes in jars, believing the right mixture could form a “mourning glass” strong enough to preserve the memory of anyone lost. When the final kiln collapsed, she vanished inside.

The smoke that rose carried her pattern: face, wings, resolve. The villagers called the apparition the Ash-Winged Mourner, a spectral archivist who builds memorials out of regret.
