Meet Quailla, the perky, portly porcupine, and nature guide for the Coochie Springs Nature Preserve!
Quailla grew up on the preserve alongside other anthe's who's families preferred maintaining their contact with nature or had a tribal history, as opposed to others that enjoyed the conveniences modern urban life. Quailla's family were some of the more progressive anthe's on the preserve however, and made regular trips into Anthropolis as family outings. She loved seeing the differences between life on the preserve, and how those in the city went about their day. Every time they would return from an outing to the city, hordes of kids from families who rarely or never left the preserve would swarm Quailla and her siblings. They'd have tons of questions about what the city was like and what happened there, what kind of food they had, what they would do for fun and countless other things. Always most curious of the children would be Quailla's best friend Nunnehi, whose family followed strict abidance to tribal traditions and rarely ever left the preserve.
Quailla would happily share her family's experiences of the city and they excitement it held. She would always conclude her recountings with a surprising statement however. She would always say she was also happy to be back home. In truth, Quailla loved the preserve and the city equally, and saw the wonderful things and problems in both. Where many of the adolescents her age on the preserve eagerly talked about the day they would become adults and leave the preserve for the excitement of the city, Quailla always knew her life would involve both. She spent a great deal of her free time trying to think of a way she could tie the preserve and the city together for not only herself, but everyone living in both, especially those like her who held an equal appreciation for both.
It came to her one day when she met a city native that had come out to see the preserve for the first time. She hadn't been busy at the time, and showed the newcomer all her favorite spots on the residential side of the preserve, and few deeper into the wild side. By the end of their time together she had learned several things. First, the anthe she'd been showing the preserve to was named Riot, and he was an absolutely delightful snow leopard male that had the same unending well of positive energy Quailla herself exuded. The second was that he planned to return and hoped she'd be willing to show him even more of the preserve which she was thrilled to hear and readily agreed to. Lastly, with Riot's unwitting assistance, she had figured out how she could create something would help build a bigger bridge between the residents of Anthropolis and the residents of Coochie Springs. She would become a tour guide for the preserve, and offer interested and intrepid city farriers a chance to see all the best parts of her home. She excitedly explained her idea and plans to her best friend Nunnehi on the very night before Nunnehi had planned to take her first trip to the city as a recognized adult of her tribe.
Nunnhei thought it sounded like an amazing idea, and promised to spread word about it throughout the city as she learned to navigate it. Quailla couldn't wait to begin introducing the people of the city to all the hidden wonder the preserve held. Just like how she vibrated head to toes whenever she got a chance to travel into the city and explore, she knew that those coming out to the preserve would discover that same sense of adventure.
True to his word, a week later Riot returned and Quailla wasted no time in whisking them away to some of her most cherished places in Coochie Springs to show him the wonders of her home...and a few other things she'd been wanting to put on display since their initial meeting <3.
Nowadays if she isn't busy exploring the city with Riot and Nunnehi, you can find Quailla hanging up signs for the new Coochie Springs Nature Walk, a guided tour by a native of the preserve with a taste for adventure!
