Change Algorithm for "Hot" Characters/Interactions
In the Cloud search UI, for Characters and Interactions, there is a tab for "Hot" as well as "New".
Right now, whatever algorithm is being used to populate the "Hot" tab ends up with basically the same results as the "New" tab.
It seems to me that the intention of the "Hot" tab is to highlight characters and interactions that have recently been rated positively or commented on.
For example, if someone updates a character/interaction and it reaches a lot of new people who rate it positively, the that character/interaction ought to show up higher in the "Hot" tab even if it was originally uploaded months or years prior.
This would make it easier to discover quality content that may have gotten buried in the increasing volume of regular uploads.
I agree, this needs to be addressed. Currently, we're basing "Hot" off of the reddit implementation, but they have much higher volumes of data. I think we need a tweaked algorithm that works across longer time spans, and that also perhaps includes the author's karma.
My idea was to implement the "Start" section for the April release, so I think I might be able to do something about ranking as well by then.
Do you have any ideas for potential algorithms to use?
All the best.
