VR Support
Once interactions and animations are implemented, players would have the ability to explore scenes and enter character POVs in VR (similar to Yiffalicious). Ideally you could also manipulate parts of the character creator in VR, but that would probably be far more complicated to design.
Developer response
VR will be implemented after interactions.

um you can keep being dismissive, but you arent a dev yet you wear the tag and attempt to throw your weight around?
so either you are a dev or are not a dev, which means either you can speak for them, or, you are just noise. make up your mind.
and i treat ppl accordingly.
you project alot i noticed like earlier wanting me to apologize to dogson when i didnt say anything about dogson. thats you, not me. so this literally falls directly in line with my original statement, thx for making my point and really sending it home.
@rugarou
Dude, I have been anything but dismissive, you just aren't reading what I'm writing. I've made up my mind from the start, you just keep misunderstanding me because you don't actually read everything. I'm not here because I'm a dev, I'm here because if you look to the right, you'll see that I'm the SUGGESTER for this SUGGESTION, so I get a notification every time someone posts here. I want this suggestion to be taken seriously by the devs and it's harder to do that when people on my side act unreasonable and don't read anything.
If you did, you'd have read when I said "the reason we keep getting new character part models is because that aspect of the development is done by dogson, a 3d modeler, not a programmer" 4 years ago. If you understood that, you'd realize that when YOU sarcastically said "we obviously need more heads rather than VR", you were essentially ignoring that fact to take a cheap shot at Dogson's expense. That's when you talked shit about Dogson, and you apparently did it without realizing because you didn't read.
Evidently, you don't treat people "accordingly". When you first asked about the status, I told you what I knew from the Patreon. Then you replied "so, not getting VR then?" which is not what I said, but whatever, it was your opinion, so I just let it be. It's not my job to speak on the dev's behalf. If I speak, it's on my own behalf as a creator and an active member of the community and the suggester of this suggestion. Then Django chimed in again, and you decided to go off too. You weren't "mobbed by the staff", you just decided to express your frustration, which again is FINE. I only got upset because of the crack about "heads rather than VR", which was insulting to Dogson's hard work whether you realized it or not.
I have not said ANYTHING to you that is even remotely as rude as that, yet you feel comfortable accusing me of "gaslighting", "acting like you're a troll", "white knighting", "going on the offensive", being "overly aggressive", "literally just noise", "being dismissive", and most hilariously of all, "projecting".
Go ahead, quote me doing any of those things. It's not that hard, here I'll do it to you:
Gaslighting: "i didn't say anything about dogson. thats you, not me"
Treating Like a Troll/Being Dismissive: "you are just noise"
Going on the Offensive: "when I asked politely in discord I was instantly attacked. so its fairly disingenious and hypocritical to post in the manner you do"
Overly Aggressive: "the actual answer is dont worry about VR, you arent getting it, and if you do, itll be when its irrelevant."
Projecting: "you project alot"
Now your turn. Go ahead, show me what I did to earn your ire other than just trying to answer your questions in good faith and pushing back on your backhanded insult of Dogson's work. Nobody is shutting you down or silencing you, At worst, you were being ignored before. But you have my attention now. Unless you only wanted it because you thought I was a dev or that arguing with me would summon a dev, and now that you know I'm not, you're dismissing everything I've written, just as you accuse me of doing, even though this is literally my suggestion you're commenting on.
I'm not dismissing what you're writing, by the way. I've made an effort to listen and respond, even as you have been increasingly rude and hostile for seemingly no reason, because I genuinely do want VR support added to FVNE. You're not helping.
you dont get to dictate how i feel, about anything.
thats offensive to me on an entirely different level, but, im not here to garner responses based on offendiness.
I like you and have had discussions with you before, same with many of the ppl that jumped to rebuke me for literally asking "when will we get VR"? like i was supposed to be ashamed or attacked anyone.. that was shit.. but it happens alot in this and most of these communities.
that happened on discord and for me ya it spilled over into this. its like even asking certain questions triggers an attack script before anything is even discussed. this never sits well with me.
Im actually pretty easy to get along with in these aspects, do the things you say you are gonna do. if you need help, ask. if not, then strike the thing from the list and stop saying itll be a thing, it feels like leading a donkey with a carrot routine after 5-6 years.
VR, doesnt have to be perfect, many games are developed then ported to VR, that would be acceptable to many. it could be a camera feature.
but this , isnt what thats about, theres ways and means for everything in the digital world so the point is moot anyways.
VR if it had been your topic or not would have been someones topic, its been the #3 and at times #2 top most requested features for years now.
personally im more in a state of mourning the loss of it than expecting to see it actually happen. and thats fine, but just call the dog a dog and be done with it is the point? the hostility stems on both sides from not saying the silent part outloud.
@rugarou
I'll take you at your word that you were just asking in good faith and the Discord jumped down your throat for no reason. It can happen, and I'm sorry if it did and if I unknowingly contributed to it.
I can only guess, but I assume the reason people are touchy about it is because, as you mentioned, it is a highly requested feature, so it gets talked about a lot, and there are a significant number of people who like to talk shit about the project as a whole entirely because of that feature regularly being pushed back.
That said, I know for a fact odes had started the HDRP migration just a few months before they announced they were killing it, and that was just a huge kick in the nuts for him that he's still recovering from emotionally. At this point, my hope is that the Unity 6.7 preview in a couple months has URP in a good enough state that odes can confidently start the migration again and get the wind back in his sails. That would also mean the VR implementation would be able to take advantage of more modern features and wouldn't kill the framerate (in theory).
But if you want me to say the silent part out loud, yeah, I think that means we probably won't see VR until at least 2029 at this rate, maybe later depending on how difficult the migration ends up being. That sucks. But I genuinely do think it'll happen once the URP migration does. It's incredibly popular as a requested feature and the devs know it would be a huge draw for new and returning users, it's just that the current built-in render pipeline would not handle processing all the complex custom shaders in stereo, and even if it did, it would still effectively cut the FPS in half, if not more. Currently, in non-VR at a lower windowed resolution, I get 30-50 FPS depending on the number of characters in the scene. That means VR performance would be 15-25. Maybe that's acceptable to you, but it wouldn't be for me. I need at least 30 fps in VR to not get sick and I prefer at least 60 if I can get it. 15 FPS would be a one-way ticket to pain for me. And imagine after years of waiting, dozens if not hundreds of users download FVNE to try the VR out, only to find it's unusable and would continue to be so until the URP migration. I imagine a lot of people would just not bother to try it again after that.
Speaking only for myself, I'd rather hope for a good VR implementation in a couple years rather than try to ask odes to squeeze out a bad version ASAP that I'd probably never actually use because of the performance hit alone -- not even considering the number of bugs it would probably introduce with the custom shaders. Plus it would be just one more thing he'd have to port over when they do the migration, which would just make that process take longer.
You're not wrong that it feels like a donkey-carrot situation, but I suppose from my perspective, I see odes as the donkey and Unity as the one holding the carrot on a stick. Odes absolutely hates misleading people, and frankly prefers to just work without making specific promises about timelines and priorities, but the reality of doing a project like this means telegraphing to your customers where you're heading, and that can mean customers getting excited for a thing that you think will take one year but actually takes five. That's pretty much what happened with VR. Odes wasn't going around promising VR left and right, we just kept asking him about it, and given the popularity of the request, he felt obliged to give his most reasonable estimate given his outlook at the time. I think he would have preferred to just say nothing about VR until it was actually on the horizon, but complete silence makes it seem like he isn't planning it at all, and I do think he's still planning it, and likely has always planned it, but he knows there's a lot of other things that have to go in place for it to work well, and he doesn't know exactly how long those other things will take until he does them, especially because Unity keeps shifting the landscape on him.
So while I acknowledge your more pessimistic outlook is warranted given the track record, I remain cautiously optimistic that it will happen... eventually. At least so long as they continue to get support for the project.
